Sharp Introduces New Blu-ray Recorders in Japan

Sharp has introduced three new lines of Blu-ray recorders for the Japanese market, all due on store shelves before the end of the year. The BD-HDW will be released in two versions - the HDW15 (with a 500GB hard drive) and HDW30 (with an industry leading 1TB hard drive). Both will feature digital and analog tuners, quick-start (less than 1s), gold plated HDMI ports, and support for Dolby TrueHD. The BD-HDW15 and BD-HDW30 are expected to ship December 1st.

The BD-AV10 will come in the choice of four colors (black, white, red, and silver) and have support for BD-RE v2.1 at up to two layers. The BD-AV1 also has support for BD-RE v2.1, but will only support writing to one layer. Additionally, the BD-AV1 will only come in three color choices (black, white, and red). The BD-AV10 and BD-AV1 are expected to ship on October 27th. Neither of the models will have an internal hard drive, but both will have digital tuners.

No pricing has been set for any of the recorders at this time.
