MPI Media Group has obtained the North American home-entertainment rights to the catalog of independent label Severin Films. As many as a dozen releases are expected a year under the deal (although not all may come out in high definition). One of the first Blu-ray titles under the agreement is Alejandro Jodorowsky's
Santa Sangre, previously unavailable on disc in the US and scheduled for release on January 25, 2011.
"Severin Films has demonstrated remarkable taste and tenacity in finding unreleased gems," MPI senior vp Greg Newman said. Severin COO Carl Daft added: "MPI has proved over many years to be a skilled and innovative producer and distributor."
Severin titles on Blu-ray include the sci-fi horror cult movie
Hardware, the raunchy comedy
Screwballs and the Enzo G. Castellari war movie
The Inglorious Bastards.
