Eureka Entertainment has officially announced
Make Way for Tomorrow for Blu-ray release in the UK on October 25, as part of its Masters of Cinema collection. This 1937 Depression drama, directed by Leo McCarey, was described by Orson Welles as "the saddest movie ever made." It was only recently released in the US by Criterion, albeit on standard definition disc only.
Special features include:
- Video piece with filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich discussing the film and Leo McCarey's career
- Video piece with writer Gary Giddins discussing McCarey's work and the social and political contexts of the film
- Booklet featuring a new essay on the film by writer and Library of America editor Geoffrey O'Brien, and an excerpt from Josephine Lawrence's source novel Years Are So Long
It will be reportedly locked to region B.
