Toy Story 3 Blu-ray in November - and in 3D in December? (Update: No!)

The latest Pixar production, Toy Story 3 (the top-grossing movie of 2010, surpasssing $400 million domestically a billion dollars globally) still hasn't been officially announced by Disney. However, according to retailer information, it will come out on Blu-ray on November 2, in various releases. A two-disc BD edition and a 2-BD/DVD/Digital Copy Combo Pack will be generally available. Target will have an exclusive Ultimate Collector's Edition with a Buzz Lightyear action figure. A Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box trilogy box set (in stagecoach-shaped packaging) will also come out on the same date. And a mystery four-disc edition just added to the mix, with a release date of December 19, which some enthusiasts think may be a 3D Blu-ray edition.

At the moment, a 3D Blu-ray release is only conjecture, but it is supported by the recent announcement from Walt Disney Studios that the 3D BD editions of both Alice in Wonderland and Bolt would be exclusively available to buyers of Sony 3D TVs - but Toy Story 3 was not mentioned as part of the agreement (see Blu-ray.com, September 8).

Special features for both the 2-BD and the Combo Pack include:

• Toy Story Trivia Dash - Sprint to the finish with Woody, Buzz, Rex and Jesse as you answer questions about all three Toy Story movies
• Day & Night theatrical short
• Epilogue - The toys' hilarious send-off
• "Toys!" - A close look at how the classic characters were updated and new toys were developed
• Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs - The science of adventure
• Paths to Pixar - Editorial: Pixar editors share stories of their illustrious careers

All of the above must be considered unofficial until there is a formal announcement from the studio.
