AIX Records has released its first 3D music album on the Blu-ray 3D format. Goldberg Variations Acoustica, is the second commercially-available 3D Blu-ray disc (after Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) and the first 3D disc with a music performance recorded especially for the format. And as with other 3D titles, blu-ray.com has spared no effort to offer you a review.

Regarding the major selling point of this release (namely, its 3D video presentation), reviewer Martin Liebman states that the image "does a fine job of absorbing the viewer into the music and makes for a satisfying accompaniment to the stellar sound presentation." Thanks to the strong sense of depth, "viewers will often feel like an involved observer seated inside the room and with the ability to accurately gauge the spacing between elements, whether a drum cluster or even a piece of paper hanging off a sheet music stand." The absence of "gimmicky elements" is also praised.

The accolades extend to the review's final conclusions: "The 3D visuals only further enhance the experience, and combined with the amazing surround sound presentation, listeners will find themselves completely immersed into this marvelous experience of sight and sound. Not only for its noteworthiness as one of the first 3D BD titles on the market but also for the content and presentation found on the disc, Goldberg Variations Acoustica earns my highest recommendation."

Goldberg Variations Acoustica was recorded in early June using four prototype 3D Panasonic 3D A1 cameras, and produced and authored using Netblender's DoStudio software. It is a single movement 53-minute improvisational performance by the "AIX All-star Band": Dean Parks, electric guitar; Laurence Juber, acoustic guitar; Jim Cox, piano and organ; Kevin Axt, bass; M.B. Gordy, drums; and Alberto Lopez, percussion.

AIX will be producing seven 3D BD discs for release this fall, including Grammy-winning vocalist Rita Coolidge, multi-platinum country artist Mark Chesnutt, classical/jazz crossover flutist James Walker and Free Flight and the 2010 Gold Medal winners of the The Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, The Old City String Quartet.

Goldberg Variations Acoustica can only be bought through AIX's online store.
