As I write today's post, I can't help but see the similarities between the cover of today's Blu-ray release of
Clash of the Titans and a scene from the beginning of
Transformers. That might explain why this action-packed remake failed to provoke the same level of attention - even while boasting a 3D presentation - as some of the more popular action films in the last decade.
Staff reviewer Ken Brown commented in the
Blu-ray review of Clash of the Titans, "Leterrier's 21st Century Clash plays out too much like its 1981 predecessor, embracing superficial theatrics and melodrama whenever Medusa and her ilk are off screen." He continued, "Its video transfer is primed to please, its DTS-HD Master Audio track truly releases the Kraken, and its supplemental package features an exclusive Maximum Movie Mode."
Most major comic book characters have had animated series at some point, but Batman has seen more success than any other property. In fact, the animated series that ran from 1992-95 picked-up a Primetime Emmy and is commonly regarded as one of the best animated series of all time. Today, Warner releases
Batman: Under the Red Hood on Blu-ray in hopes of continuing that legacy.
For the
Blu-ray review of Batman: Under the Red Hood, staff reviewer Ken Brown commented, "Batman: Under the Red Hood isn't just the best DC animated release to date, it's one of the finest Batman stories on the home video market, animated or otherwise." Regarding the quality, he continues, "While it boasts a strong DTS-HD Master Audio track, it's hindered by a problematic video transfer and a limited supplemental package."
And of course, Criterion brings the catalog goods this week, once again, with another premiere film. This week, they bring the Abdel Kechiche film
The Secret of the Grain to Blu-ray.
In the
Blu-ray review of The Secret of the Grain, staff reviewer Svet Atanasov commented, "Abdellatif Kechiche's The Secret of the Grain is a wonderful, genuinely moving film, and it is great to see that it finally has a deserving North American release. Criterion's Blu-ray disc also has some terrific supplemental features, so make sure to go through all of them."
