What happens when you put the director of
The Bourne Supremacy and
The Bourne Ultimatum with the star of the
The Bourne Trilogy in an action packed political conspiracy film? Well, apparently not the fourth
Bourne movie. In its place, we get
Green Zone - out today on Blu-ray – a politically divided film about the threat (or lack thereof) of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
In the
Blu-ray review of Green Zone, reviewer Jeffrey Kaufman commented, "The Iraq war is still such a hot button topic that few will watch Green Zone without having an instant opinion about what they've seen. Greengrass does absolutely outstanding work depicting the chaos of Baghdad after the fall of Hussein, but the film falls just a tad short in crafting real life human characters in the parts of Miller and Poundstone."
For diehard Entourage fans, the last season was a bit of a disappointment compared to the quality we have come to expect from the show. But one thing that can be celebrated is that
Entourage: The Complete Sixth Season is the first season to be released on Blu-ray, and its out today just in time for the Season 7 premiere.
Those of you who have already made the jump to Blu-ray 3D will be happy to know that Sony is releasing
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 3D today, the first Blu-ray 3D title available as a standalone retail unit. The title proved a surprise hit at the box office, and now that consumers can get the same 3D experience at home, it should do well on store shelves.
Staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented in his
Blu-ray review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3D, "This Blu-ray 3D release of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs rights just about every wrong that plagued DreamWorks' exclusively-bundled Monsters vs. Aliens disc. It's got a few lossless soundtracks and a decent supplemental package while also playing on 2D Blu-ray players and being sold at a consumer-friendly price."
On the catalog front, Warner is releasing the Judy Garland film
A Star is Born on Blu-ray today. The studio continues to show their prowess for bringing older films – including this one from 1954 – back to life in majestic high definition presentations.
For the
Blu-ray review of A Star is Born, staff reviewer Ken Brown commented, "Blessed with a faithful, technically proficient video transfer (itself the product of a magnificent restoration), a solid DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track (compiled from multiple sources no less), handsome Digibook packaging with (gasp) a worthwhile essay, and a decent set of special features makes this 2-disc release worth every penny."
