The Book of Eli - which is out on Blu-ray today - did not live up to the expectations of critics, who collectively gave it a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
For the
Blu-ray review of The Book of Eli, staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented, "The picture is packed with metaphors and imagery that might not sit well with all viewers but should satisfy those of a faith-based background. Warner Brothers' Blu-ray release of The Book of Eli boasts a wonderful technical presentation and a fair assortment of extra content."
If you are having difficultly remembering the trailer for
Unthinkable, don't feel bad, I am having difficultly finding any evidence it ever received a theatrical release. Regardless, the film, which is out today on Blu-ray, explores the touchy subject on how and when torture is justified, and it seems to have developed somewhat of a cult following.
Staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented in his
Blu-ray review of Unthinkable, "Unthinkable is a truly frightening film on several levels; it's a disturbing visual tour of the limits of the human body's ability to cope with physical trauma while also examining the darkest side of fanaticism and one possible means of combating it." He continued, "Sony brings this heart-racing picture to Blu-ray with a wonderful 1080p transfer, a quality lossless soundtrack, but a noticeable absence of a stronger supplemental section."
When
Showgirls was originally released, I remember that it was displayed in both 'R' and 'NC-17' rated versions theatrically. Today's Blu-ray release fortunately features the later. Unfortunately, this does not make the film any easier to watch, and it still maintains a Roten Tomatoes score of 14%, leaving today's Blu-ray release for fans only.
Staff Reviewer Cassey Broadwater confirms that sentiment in the
Blu-ray review of Showgirls: "You likely already have an opinion on Showgirls—it's either irredeemable garbage, a clever bit of show-biz satire, or a guilty pleasure on par with Barbarella." He continues, "Showgirls looks and sounds better than ever. I can't bring myself to recommend the film to newcomers, but if you're already a fan, have at it."
