Sony Electronics has made available a new firmware version for Blu-ray player models
BDP-S470 and
BDP-S570. Improvements added with this new firmware prominently include include "support for 3D content." The addition of this feature is timed to coincide with the launch of Sony's 3D HDTVs and its first 3D Blu-ray,
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
The new firmware also adds support for DLNA content, and improvements in router connectivity. It can be updated via disc or network. To install the new firmware, go to the Sony
support site and follow the instructions.
Two of Sony's home theater systems (models BDV-E570 and BDV-E770W) are also getting 3D compatibility.
Note that Sony's PS3 console received 3D support with firmware version 3.30, but only for games. A further firmware upgrade to enable 3D for movies will be made available later in the year.
