During the Media-Tech fair in Frankfurt, German authoring studio Imagion announced that it's currently producing what will be the first European-produced 3D Blu-ray: the documentary
Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk, originally shot using IMAX 3D cameras. This title will be released by the studio Eurovideo in late June. Not only will it include 3D menus, but also a 3D-compatible BD-Live application.
Imagion claims that it is currently the only authoring studio in Europe with a 3D Blu-ray official license from the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). Another ten titles (including special-interest and features) are confirmed for the remainder of 2010. An Imagion representative said that titles produced for IMAX theaters will especially be a revelation.
Grand Canyon Adventure was mastered at 8K for 3D cinemas and will thus offer "an incredible level of detail."
In the meantime, no 3D Blu-ray titles are announced for retail in the US yet - only discs bundled with hardware.
