As previously reported (see blu-ray.com, April 21), in conjunction with international Earth Day, and to celebrate Avatar's UK Blu-ray release, a real-life version of the Tree of Souls 'came to life' at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park for 3 days from Saturday 24 - Monday 26 April. The public could connect to this life-sized replica tree, with 20 miles of fibre optics, to manipulate the movement, colour and glow of the branches, make social networking status updates with an Earth Day message and upload photos and messages to a screen built into the tree's trunk.
For every person who connected with the
tree, a real tree will be planted until the target of planting 1 million trees worldwide is reached.
