The UK branch of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that
Avatar has delivered the highest first-day Blu-ray unit sales for any film in the UK since the inception of the format.
Avatar sales beat the previous UK record held by
The Dark Knight, selling more BDs in its first 24 hours than the latest caped crusader flick sold in its first week.
A "phenomenal" 222,824 units were purchased by British consumers on its first day of release, April 26. Elsewhere, James Cameron's epic is also breaking records. In France, it sold 136,000 units in its first two days on shelves, whereas in Germany and Austria it moved 250,000 BD copies (out of a total of 700,000).
