When 1980s fan favorite
The NeverEnding Story came out on Blu-ray last March 2, extras were conspicuously absent from the disc- not even a trailer. It turns out that Warner Home Video never contacted director Wolfgang Petersen to let him know about the upcoming BD release, let alone ask for his input with special features or remastering.
"I didn't even know!" admits Petersen, in an interview with MTV News. "Sometimes the studios are…it's just unbelievable," added Petersen, seemingly at a loss for words. "I would have loved to get involved and work on the colors a little bit, let's do this and let's do that. They didn't tell me. It's strange."
The German-born filmmaker wasn't even sent a complimentary copy of the Blu-ray and had to send his assistant to buy one for him. "I have a beautiful theater at home and I can screen it there. I have not seen it yet in Blu-ray, and I have family here from Germany, [so] we really are looking forward to seeing it again. It's been a long time since I've seen it. I'm so anxious to see how it looks on Blu-ray."
Hopefully when Sony decides to release
Das Boot on Blu-ray, they won't make the same mistake.
