Yesterday, just after the announcement of an agreement between Redbox and Warner Home Video on delayed movie rentals (see blu-ray.com,
January 16), Paul Davis, CEO of Coinstar (the parent company of Redbox), said that Redbox would probably begin offering Blu-ray Disc rentals by mid-2010. He also stated that Blu-ray “strengthens our position to meet consumer demand.”
Regarding pricing, Davis explained that the price point for Blu-ray had not been set yet. However, he was certain it would be “higher than our standard DVDs.”
