To some, he was known as the “King of Pop”. To others, he was “Wacko Jacko”. But to most, Michael Jackson was one of the most gifted and influential singers of his time. His untimely passing while rehearsing for a comeback tour caused shock throughout the world, and for a brief moment in time, everyone ignored the controversy and mourned the loss of a man who had positively affected so many. For the release of ‘
Michael Jackson's This Is It', Sony compiled rehearsal footage to bring fans one last glimpse into what could have been one of the most memorable concerts of all time, and it is being released today on Blu-ray.
For the
Blu-ray review of ‘Michael Jackson's This Is It', staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented, “Michael Jackson's This is It is a career-defining Documentary, a fitting final tribute to an icon of entertainment, and an exceptional film from both thematic and entertainment perspectives.” He continued, “Sony has rolled out the red carpet for This is It; the Blu-ray presentation features a true-to-the-many-sources 1080p transfer, a pristine lossless soundtrack, and solid array of extra materials.”
Due to the increasing popularity and portability of film camera during the 1930's and 1940's, large libraries of motion pictures exist that document the glory and gloom of World War II. Regardless of age, most film stock can benefit from a high definition presentation, and that is no different here where images of WWII are shown in more detail than ever before. The History Channel has collected 470 minutes of this footage for a ‘
WWII in HD' Blu-ray release, which is out today.
Staff reviewer Jeffrey Kauffman concluded in his
Blu-ray review of ‘WWII in HD', “I can't imagine many people not being moved and, yes, even occasionally mortified by the stories and footage provided in WWII in HD. This is one of the most outstanding World War II documentaries in recent memory, and it comes very highly recommended.”
If ‘
Surrogates' appears to be an amalgam of several sci-fi ideas rolled up into one lack-luster presentation, then you're probably one of the millions of moviegoers who decided to skip this latest Bruce Willis film while it was in theaters. On the surface, there is an intriguing story based in the not too distant future, but some, like staff reviewer Ken Brown, were left generally unsatisfied.
“Surrogates is an entertaining, occasionally mindless exercise in fulfilled potential and missed opportunities; an action-oriented procedural that cashes in on a handful of intriguing questions, but sometimes fails to pair them with equally intriguing answers,” commented staff reviewer Ken Brown in his
Blu-ray review of ‘Surrogates'. “It features a faithful, technically proficient video transfer, a full-throttle DTS-HD Master Audio track, and a decent supplemental package that holds a number of exclusives.”
As with all successful horror series, studios will continue to pump out sequels until the series goes stale (at which point, they will simply begin remaking the originals). The Saw series is no different, and it has become an annual tradition for horror junkies. The latest film in the series, ‘
Saw VI', only was able to generate about half the box office receipts of its predecessor, but critics rated it higher than any other Saw film since the original. You can expect a seventh installment this October, rumored to be presented in 3D.
