Video Business Magazine Shuts Down

Posted January 6, 2010 04:31 PM by Juan Calonge

Reed Business Information, owner of the home entertainment trade magazine Video Business, has announced that it is shutting down both the printed and online publication, as part of a larger, ongoing strategy to divest itself of most of its business-to-business publications in the US. The January 4 issue was the last for the magazine.

“I'm extremely proud of the role VB has played in the home entertainment industry, consistently breaking news, while providing important analysis and insight to our readers for almost three decades,” said Marcy Magiera, editor-in-chief and associate publisher. “Every staff member and regular contributor here is a first-class business journalist, and I will miss working with this smart, dedicated and caring group of people.”

Thomas K. Arnold, publisher and editorial director of competitor Home Media Magazine, had this to say: “The plight of trade magazines is nothing new, but this still comes as a shock and a surprise, a very sad surprise. Video Business has been a very strong competitor for many, many years, and they truly kept us on our toes, both editorially and on the sales front. They have some extremely talented people on their staff — Marcy Magiera and Susanne Ault are two that come to mind immediately — and provided our industry as well as the outside world with another voice, another perspective. I consider this a tremendous loss for our industry.”

Video Business has, along with Home Media Magazine, been an invaluable resource for home entertainment industry news, and blu-ray.com has referenced it many times in the past. It will be missed. The thoughts of the news team of blu-ray.com go to the very talented writers and editors and other staff of the magazine and trust that this will only be a temporary setback for them.

Home entertainment business and technology news will continue to be posted at Reed Business Information's Variety.
