For the week of October 19th, the Criterion Collection will release its 30-disc Blu-ray and 4K UHD collector's set The Complete Kubrick (1951-1999)
Description: A titan of cinema whose influence extends across visual art, philosophy, politics, technology, fashion, and beyond, Stanley Kubrick created an unprecedented string of masterpieces, from Paths of Glory to Dr. Strangelove to 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut. Bending disparate genres to his will, he imbued his creations with a cuttingly ironic worldview and an iconographic, mesmerizingly precise visual style, probing the anxieties, enigmas, and horrors of the twentieth century with a coolly devastating eye. Tracing his evolution from independent maverick to Hollywood rebel to visionary transnational auteur whose every film from the mid-1960s on became a manifesto of a radically new sensibility, The Complete Kubrick brings together the entirety of a body of work that opened popular cinema up to new realms of moral profundity and metaphysical mystery.
Collected here for the first time are Kubrick's thirteen features and three shorts, all restored in 4K, with their original soundtracks alongside the 5.1 mixes, restored and remastered; over twenty-five hours of interviews, documentaries, and behind-the-scenes materials; and deluxe packaging illustrated with rare photographs, artwork, and documents annotated by Kubrick himself, all housed in a singular box inspired by the director's legendary archive.
Criterion's The Complete Kubrick collector's set contains the 4K UHD premieres of the three short filmsDay of the Fight, Flying Padre and The Seafarers, as well as Lolita (1962) and the international version of The Shining, amongst 4K masters for all sixteen films, with original LPCM Mono (from Killer's Kiss through to Full Metal Jacket, with two exceptions), DTS-HD MA 7.1 (Spartacus), 70mm theatrical DTS-HD MA 5.1 (2001: A Space Odyssey) or DTS-HD MA 5.1 (Eyes Wide Shut) audio, additional 5.1 remixes where applicable, and Dolby Vision HDR on the 4K UHD discs. With the exception of Barry Lyndon, all feature encodes have been handled by Fidelity in Motion.
New extras include audio commentaries with author Michael Benson (on 2001: A Space Odyssey) and filmmaker Lee Unkrich (on The Shining), a new 4K remaster of Vivian Kubrick's documentary Making "The Shining" (1980), a conversation between novelist Jonathan Lethem and film historian Kevin Wynter, unseen screen tests from Lolita with actors James Mason and Sue Lyon and rare behind-the-scenes footage from Full Metal Jacket. Also included are hours of archival audio commentaries, documentaries, interviews and other extras.

New on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber is Alex Cox's Dead Souls (2025), starring Alex Cox, Zander Schloss, Dick Rude, Amariah Dionne, and Brendan Guy Murphy. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.
Description: For his directorial swan song, Alex Cox (Repo Man, Straight to Hell) stars in this frontier fable of American greed, playing the mysterious drifter Strindler as he scours the West for the names of dead Mexican laborers. In this loose adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's 1842 novel Dead Souls, Strindler – or is it Swindler? – raises eyebrows when he offers to pay a pretty penny to add to his list of names. Wandering affably from saloon to ranch, Strindler exercises the old adage that money talks – but sometimes too loudly. Pistol duels and crooked officials abound, and Spaghetti Western legend Gianni Garko (If You Meet Sartana Pray for Your Death) claims a co-writer credit. But Cox's idiosyncrasy stands out as the film veers tonally through the picaresque, dark satire and other unexpected twists. Dead Souls is a meditative Western that takes place at the borderlands of the American nightmare: where fortunes rest on a dirty deal, and legacies are built on blood and gold.
Kino's Blu-ray of Dead Souls contains audio commentary with Alex Cox, behind-the-scenes VFX creation at Tippett Studio, a "documentary featurette" and a trailer.
