For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's
Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The adaptaion of Andy Weir's novel of the same name (the same author who wrote the novel of
The Martian) opened in March 2026 to critical acclaim and–unusually for an original film in these times–financial success, topping the box office for its first two weeks en route to over $344 million domestically and over $684 million globally. In addition to the single-disc
Blu-ray and
4K UHD releases this week (which sport an audio commentary, deleted scenes and a featurette), Alliance will release a three-disc
Amazon Exclusive Limited Edition 4K UHD SteelBook with additional content and a booklet in October 2026. This week,
Project Hail Mary had a strong HD share of 78% and 48% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, enough to also make it the week's top 4K UHD release.
Coming in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Mars Attacks!. Tim Burton's 1996 sci-fi comedy was originally released on Blu-ray in
2010, but this week, saw a 4K UHD upgrade from Warner, with Dolby Vision HDR, a choice of a new Dolby Atmos remix or original DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio tracks and two new featurettes. This week,
Mars Attacks! sold 12% as many Blu-ray units as
Project Hail Mary, with an HD share of 99% and 91% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to third place on the Blu-ray-only chart in its third week is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Mortal Kombat II. The sequel to surprise hit
Mortal Kombat (2021) opened in May 2026 much like its predecessor did: to mixed reviews but strong box office. While it opened in second place behind
The Devil Wears Prada 2, eventually, the film grossed over $79 million domestically and over $129 million globally. This week,
Mortal Kombat II sold 9% as many Blu-ray units as
Project Hail Mary, with an HD share of 63% and 31% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Disney and 20th Century Stuudios'
Barbarian (2022) debuted at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while Decal Releasing's
Hokum and
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert debuted at Nos. 5 and 6 and Crunchyroll's Blu-ray of
Dragon Ball Daima: The Complete Season (2024-2025) debuted at No. 9. Elsewhere on the 4K UHD chart, Arrow Video's
Ju-on: The Grudge 4K came in at No. 15 and MVD Visual's
New York, New York 4K rounded out the chart at No. 20.
