Blue Ray Technologies Opens First Plant

Blue Ray Technologies has completed the development of their first Blu-ray production plant in Spokane, WA, and is now pressing Blu-ray discs. The plant is the first true indie Blu-ray plant owned and operated in the US, and will allow independent studios and directors to have their HD content put on Blu-ray discs and distributed to the world. Erick Hansen, chairman of Blue Ray Technologies commented, "New technology will provide the next boon to film companies large and small as it did when VHS and later, DVDs came to market and created new revenue streams. Driven by the HD TV boom in U.S. households, a growing number of consumers will steadily replace their DVDs with high definition discs." The plant represents a $12M investment, and is eco-friendly thanks to help from GE Plastics. Blue Ray Technologies can also assist in the distribution of the discs via a joint venture with producer John Daly ('Terminator', 'Platoon') via Edge of Light Media. Blue Ray Technologies is so sure that Blu-ray is the future, that they are becoming one of the largest buyers of HD libraries for international release. When asked about rival format HD DVD, Hansen said, "The competition is over. Blu-ray won."
