Australian label Imprint Films has informed us that it will two new Asian titles to its Blu-ray catalog. They are: Nikkatsu Erotica: Volume One (1973-1973) and The Erotic Films of Li Han-hsiang: Volume One (1973-1976). The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on August 23.
NIKKATSU EROTICA: VOLUME ONE (1972-1973)
Nikkatsu is recognized as Japan's oldest film studio, founded in 1912 when four smaller production companies merged, and still active today. Renowned for creating some of the most boundary-pushing cinema in history, they created the 'Roman Porno' movement in the 70s, a sub-genre known for mixing sex, violence, and romance, elevating the merely explicit into an art form. This first volume features two erotic fascinations directed by Tatsumi Kumashiro:

Once voted one of the 100 best Japanese films of the 20th Century (by the cinema journal Kinema Jumpo in 1999), Tatsumi Kumashiro's Wet Desire stars famous stripper Sayuri Ichijō as herself, alongside Kazuko Shirakawa (After Life) and Hiroko Isayama (Martin Scorsese's Silence).
Ichijo Sayuri, once the legendary queen of Osaka strippers, has retired to run a sushi shop. She is awaiting her day in court after having been arrested for indecency at her farewell performance.
Lovers Are Wet
Also voted one of the 100 best Japanese films of the 20th Century (by the cinema journal Kinema Jumpo, 1999), Lovers Are Wet is director Tatsumi Kumashiro's response to the hypocrisy of censorship, finding creative ways to bypass the censorship rules imposed on cinema of the time.
A young man named Katsu comes to a rural town by the sea and begins working in a movie theatre. The wife of the cinema owner becomes interested in his past.

Li Han-hsiang was among the most influential directors of Chinese cinema, helming over 70 films across a five-decade career. Three tales drawn from classical Chinese legend unfold across the Tang and Ming dynasties, weaving together emperors, scholars, Buddhist monks, and fortunetellers, in a world where adultery, greed, and desire make the rules. Based on the famous erotic novel Jin Ping Mei, The Golden Lotus features the film debut of Jackie Chan, alongside Peter Yang Chun (The Protector) and Hu Chin (The Fate of Lee Khan). Successful merchant His-Men Ching will stop at nothing to woo Pan Chin-Lien, the beautiful wife of one of the townspeople. Restored from the original negative, The Golden Lotus is a lustful tale of passion between the rich and the poor, adulterous and surprising.

In Moods of Love, Li Han-hsiang interweaves themes of vengeance and karmic retribution in two sultry tales of fatal seduction. In the first story, a Song Dynasty Buddhist monk is tricked into sexual relations with an unscrupulous female adventurer. In the second, the daughter of a woman who died in a brothel discovers that her mother died an unnatural death and seeks revenge. Starring many Shaw Brothers favorites, including Elliot Ngok Wah (Black Magic), Siu Yam-yam (Human Lanterns), and Tien Ni (Hex).
