Macao
Description: One of the most sizzling fusions of sex appeal of the 1950s, Jane Russell and Robert Mitchum ignite a tantalizing tale of mystery and deception. The quick pulse of this film noir begins as three strangers arrive in Macao, the infamous Portuguese island off the south coast of China. A dangerous game of subterfuge is played out in the island's smoke-filled hotels, gambling houses, bleak streets and docks by Nick Cochran (Mitchum), Julie Benson (Russell), and Lawrence Trumble (William Bendix), and a host of other shady characters-none of whom are what they seem to be.
The provocative atmosphere of dark dealing and murder is eclipsed only by the steamy passion that erupts between Cochran and Benson, almost making them forget that they are at the center of a tempest of international intrigue.

- Audio Commentary by Eddie Muller with screenwriter Stanley Rubin

Crime Wave
Reformed ex-con Steve Lacey (Gene Nelson) has finally built a straight, honest life with his devoted wife, Ellen (Phyllis Kirk). But that fragile American dream shatters in the dead of night when a wounded former cellmate crashes into his home after a deadly gas-station holdup. Trapped in a tightening vise, Lacey is terrorized by a pair of escaped San Quentin thugs—including a menacing early performance by Charles Bronson (billed as Charles Buchinsky) and the unhinged Timothy Carey—who extort his help for a high-stakes bank heist. On their trail is Detective Lt. Sims (Sterling Hayden), a cynical, toothpick-chewing force of nature who operates with a disturbing edge of righteous sadism. Sims doesn't care about rehabilitation; he wants his targets caught, and he's more than willing to use the terrified newlyweds as bait.
Shot on location over a frenetic two weeks, Crime Wave completely rejects Hollywood studio gloss in favor of moody, naturalistic night cinematography by master cinematographer Bert Glennon (They Died With Their Boots On). From the long-lost streets of early '50s Los Angeles to an actual, real-time Bank of America robbery, this B-noir masterpiece serves as both a gripping psychological thriller and a stark time capsule of the era of its production.

But when ruthless outlaw villain Brett Amrock (Zachary Scott) deceptively steals a pair of those revolutionary revolvers, he unleashes a brutal wave of terror across the territory. Wrongfully accused of aiding the bandits, Farrell must break away from the law, track down the vicious gang, and reclaim the deadly weapons before the West is completely overrun.
Directed with relentless, fast-paced energy by Edwin L. Marin (Tall in the Saddle) and beautifully photographed in vibrant Technicolor®, Colt .45 is a quintessential, hard-hitting Warner Bros. Western. Featuring stellar supporting performances from Ruth Roman, Lloyd Bridges, and Chief Thundercloud, this action classic stands tall as a premier showcase for Randolph Scott's enduring, iron-jawed heroism.

Ann flees to Cuba to untangle her circumstances, with her suspicious husband not far behind. He hires suave private detective Neil Davis (George Brent) to tail her and gather evidence against Ann. The assignment takes a steamy, unexpected turn when the investigator tries to get the goods on her, only to fall madly in love. One by one, the Gestapo hunts the seven down and returns them to the crosses…and death. Until there is one cross left…and one man is trying to escape it. Fred Zinnemann (The Search, High Noon) directs Spencer Tracy at the head of a terrifically talented ensemble that includes such notables as Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy (their first appearance together), Ray Collins, Signe Hasso, and Agnes Moorehead. The Sisters
Description: "I was delighted with this part because it was a change of pace" Bette Davis said about playing Louise Elliott in The Sisters. "I was always challenged by a new type of person to play." Louise is a most appealing type of person, a warm, intelligent woman who loses her heart to a charming ne'er-do-well (Errol Flynn, in his first pairing with Davis) who marries, then deserts her. It takes the pandemonium of the San Francisco earthquake and two years of heartache to reunite them. Anita Louise and Jane Bryan co-star as Louise's sisters, whose own marital trials and tribulations add more hankies and more prestige melodrama bookended by the 1904 and 1908 presidential elections and enriched by a nod to a dawning woman's movement

Description: Presenting Judy Garland! Whether swinging a hot number with Bob Crosby and His Orchestra or emoting a hilariously hammy version of Lady MacBeth's sleepwalking scene, Judy is a delight as a stage-struck Hoosier in this charming film based on Booth Tarkington's novel. Lily is certain she has the talent to light up the Great White Way, so when big producer John Thornway (Van Heflin) visits her hometown, she expends all the candlepower of her charisma to impress him. He's not impressed. He heads back to New York and Lily follows, thumbing her way east one what she's sure is a one-way trip to instant stardom. At a mere 20 years old, Judy had already reached stardom.

She must find other ways to remember their life together. From the novel by James Hilton (Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Lost Horizon) comes one of the great sentimental romance movies.
