Undercrank Productions has informed us that it will release on Blu-ray
Edward Everett Horton: 8 Silent Comedies. The two-disc set is scheduled to arrive on the market on June 9.
Descriptionm: The Blu-ray set unearths eight uproarious silent comedies starring Edward Everett Horton made years before his best remembered roles as a supporting actor in the 1930s and 1940s. The disc includes a short video essay about Horton's life and career narrated by film historian Steve Massa.
"Having the production values of the Lloyd features," says film historian Steve Massa, "the best of these shorts are right up there with Laurel and Hardy's Big Business (1929), Max Davidson's Pass the Gravy (1928), and Charley Chase's Limousine Love (1928) as examples of the final peak of silent comedy."
Long unavailable and mostly forgotten, the shorts survived and were preserved in the 1970s. Undercrank Productions, together with the Library of Congress, is proud to present these new digital restorations made from 35mm preservation elements, and unveil an unknown chapter in the career of a great comedian and movie icon. All films feature new musical scores by Ben Model on theatre organ or piano.
