BD Sales, November 23-29: Angels & Demons Wins by a Nose (Update)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's 'Angels & Demons' was the top-selling title on Blu-ray in the week ended November 23, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. In its second week, Paramount's 'Star Trek' got to number two, although both titles were remarkably close in sales volume - units sold were within 1 percent of each other. In Black Friday week, consumers "snapped up DVDs and Blu-ray Discs like candy", with estimated total packaged-media sales of 25 million discs.

Here are the top ten selling titles on Blu-ray for the week:

  2. Star Trek
  3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  4. Up
  5. Monsters vs. Aliens
  6. Fast & Furious
  7. The Dark Knight
  8. I Am Legend
  9. The Taking of Pelham 123
  10. The Departed
Regarding Blu-ray market share, 'Angels & Demons' got a respectable 25% from BD sales. 'Four Christmases' had 10%, and the direct-to-video title 'Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws', 6%.

Update

Overall, BD sales revenue was $69.06 million, the highest figure ever for the format, up 224.04% from the same week last year.

Packaged-media sales revenue was $560.15 million, up 1.02% year-on-year. Blu-ray accounted for 12.3% of that revenue.
