Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is preparing a 4K Blu-ray release of Robert Zemeckis' The Walk (2015), starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale, and Clément Sibony. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on May 19.
Description: Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man -- Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) -- has ever walked in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. Academy Award winning director Robert Zemeckis uses advanced technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story.
THE WALK is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.
The film is an expansive story of the characters and events that led up to the famous walk - including Philippe's experiences growing up, his romantic entanglements and the complicated relationship with his surrogate father Papa Rudy (Sir Ben Kingsley). The cast also includes Charlotte Le Bon as Petit's lover, as well as James Badge Dale and Ben Schwartz as members of the ragtag gang he recruits to pull off the absurdly ambitious and dangerous "heist."
The screenplay is by Zemeckis & Christopher Browne, based on the book "To Reach the Clouds" by Philippe Petit. The producers are Steve Starkey, Zemeckis, and Jack Rapke. The executive producers are Cherylanne Martin, Jackie Levine, and Ben Waisbren.
