Last week, at the MEDICA medical trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany, Panasonic presented the Advanced Disc for Archive (ADA) optical disc, a Blu-ray with a cassette-type shell case aimed at archiving data of pictures in the medical field. Archiving software provider QStar Technologies has certified Panasonic's Blu-ray archiving box for its HSM archival storage software platform.
QStar said it is working with Panasonic and IT integrator Rorke Data to create a network-attached DICOM Store appliance using ADA for medical imaging archiving. The company added that the 50Gbyte storage capacity, fast random data access and robust protective cartridge make ADA ideally suited for the needs of a PACS environment.
