Blu-ray Sales: December 21-27: Black Phone 2 Survives Temporary Disconnection from the Charts (UPDATED)

Posted January 10, 2026 02:20 PM by Sean Greenwood

UPDATE #2: As of January 13th, at 8:55 AM EST, the charts for this article have been updated again and the missing Blu-ray and 4K UHD market share data has been added, with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's new release Bugonia, which sold an impressive 64% of its units on 4K UHD, coming in at No. 4 on the UHD Market Share chart. Note that Shout Factory's Cloud Atlas 4K, another 4K UHD upgrade released this week, has also been added to the 4K UHD sales chart at No. 11.

The below news article was originally posted on January 10th, 2026 at 2:20 PM EST. However, the source article and charts are being updated as of January 12th, 2026. The source article originally claimed that Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Dogma, the Criterion Collection's Eyes Wide Shut and Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Wonder (2017) were the top three Blu-rays this week, but Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's two new releases, Black Phone 2 and Bugonia, have now been inserted into the first and fourth spots on the Blu-ray chart, as well as the fourth and third spots on the 4K UHD chart and the first and third spots on the overall disc sellers chart.

On the 4K UHD chart, Shout Factory and GKIDS' Perfect Blue 4K, a 4K UHD upgrade from this week, was also added at No. 9 (Perfect Blue was later also added to the Blu-ray sales chart at No. 20).

The rest of the charts are identical to what they were when this news article was originally posted, so the titles have simply been added to the charts below to show the change. Further changes will be made to this article as necessary.

For the week that ended on December 27th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Black Phone 2 topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its first week. The sequel to the surprise horror hit The Black Phone opened in October 2025 to positive reviews and even if it didn't quite enjoy the box office success of its predecessor (which grossed over $161 million worldwide against a $16-18 million budget), it still did quite well for itself, with over $77 million domestically and over $132 million worldwide, this time against a budget of $30 million. This week, Black Phone 2 had an HD share of 62%, with 29% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Dropping into second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Dogma. Kevin Smith's 1999 film was released on Blu-ray by Sony in 2008, but subsequently, the film went out-of-print worldwide, before being "resurrected", remastered in 4K and released in a 4K UHD edition by Lionsgate, complete with a new Dolby Atmos remixed audio track, Dolby Vision HDR and a bounty of new and old extras. This week, Dogma sold 69% as many Blu-ray units as Black Phone 2 and was again blessed not only with an immaculate HD share of 100%, but also all 100% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, again making it the week's top 4K UHD title.

Coming in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is the Criterion Collection's remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD release of Eyes Wide Shut. Stanley Kubrick's final film had originally been released on Blu-ray by Warner Bros. back in 2007, but the Criterion release features a new 4K master (supervised and approved by director of photography Larry Smith) along with Dolby Vision HDR and both new interviews and a plethora of legacy extras. This week, Eyes Wide Shut sold 63% as many Blu-ray units as Black Phone 2, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 88% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Universal's Bugonia debuted at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while on the UHD Sellers chart, Shout Factory and GKIDS' Perfect Blue 4K came in at No. 9 and Shout's Cloud Atlas 4K, another 4K UHD upgrade released this week, came in at No. 11.
