Deaf Crocodile is preparing a 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo pack release of Otakar Vávra's Krakatit (1948), starring Karel Höger, Florence Marly, Eduard Linkers, Jirí Plachý, and Nataša Tanská. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market in early 2026.
A classic Czech sci-fi noir, Krakatit tells the story of Prokop, a brilliant chemist who invents a super explosive named Krakatit and, after a lab accident, suffers feverish hallucinations, struggling to recall his formula as spies and shadowy figures pursue him, all while grappling with his guilt and the terrifying power of his discovery, blurring reality with dreams in a surreal, pre-nuclear anxiety thriller.
Deaf Crocodile's combo pack release presents a new 4K restoration of Krakatit by the Národní filmový archiv (NFA) in Prague, co-presented with the Comeback Company.
