British label Old Gold Media has provided complete details for its upcoming Blu-ray release of The Sweeney: Series Four (1978), starring John Thaw, Dennis Waterman, and Garfield Morgan. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on February 2.
Description: Start 2026 with a bang, Sweeney-style! After the huge success of the first three series box sets, Old Gold Media is proud to be releasing The Sweeney Series Four Collector's Edition, beautifully restored on Blu-ray, on 2nd February 2026. Combined with Series One, Two (available now) and Series Three (releasing 1st December at Amazon, HMV, Zavvi, and as a digital download), they make the complete set of the classic TV crime drama starring acting legends John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, as well as a host of amazing guest stars including Morecambe and Wise!
The fourth and final series of The Sweeney, sees Detective Inspector Jack Regan (Thaw) and Detective Sergeant George Carter (Waterman) in fourteen action-packed episodes, coming up against London's most merciless hard men and sneaky swindlers, and doing their level best to remain within the constraints of the law themselves when dishing out justice. The Sweeney had never looked better - or hit harder!
Some fantastic familiar faces appear in Series Four, including Diana Dors (Oliver Twist), Richard Wilson (One Foot in the Grave), Joss Ackland (White Mischief), Michael Elphick (Boon), George Sewell (Get Carter), Richard Griffiths (Withnail & I), James Cosmo (Braveheart) - and comedy favourites Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise; with the usual high quality, gripping scripts by the likes of Ted Childs (The Zero Option), Roger Marshall (Public Eye), Trevor Preston (Out), and Tony Hoare (Minder).
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Sweeney, Series Four has been digitally restored and remastered for the first time in the original TV aspect ratio, with the original 2.0 mono and new 5.1 sound options; this definitive collector's box set is packed with special features and bonus materials, and includes a fascinating booklet. With Series One described by Retro Reels as "a great set for fans of the show", and Series Two and Three maintaining that high standard that's come to be expected from Old Gold Media releases, be sure not to miss the final series of this classic, game-changing TV crime drama classic.
