British label Cult Films will reissue its Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers (1966), starring Brahim Hadjadj, Jean Martin, Yacef Saadi, Samia Kerbash, abd Ugo Paletti. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 10.
Description: Widely regarded as one of cinema's most powerful and politically charged masterpieces, Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers is remastered from 4K-restored original negative and presented in its most complete and authentic form to date.
Recreating the Algerian struggle for independence from French occupation and depicting the brutal acts committed by both sides, it is a gripping, thought-provoking chronicle of resistance, repression – now more relevant today than ever.
Among the wealth of exclusive extras are in-depth interviews with Gillo Pontecorvo; Saadi Yacef, the producer, actor, and former FLN leader whose own experiences inspired the story. A featurette with Marco Pontecorvo, filmmaker and son of the director, shows his supervision of the meticulous 4K restoration - ensuring that every frame preserves the raw, grain-rich documentary style originally envisioned by his father Gillo Pontecorvo's monumental work.
