For the week that ended on August 16th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
How to Train Your Dragon (2025) topped the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media and UHD Sellers charts in its first week. A remake of the
2010 animated film of the same name, this new version boasted the same directors and blended live-action human performances (including actor Gerard Butler in a reprise of his voice role) with CGI-animated dragons. It opened in June 2025 to positive reviews and perhaps surprisingly, has outperformed all the fully-animated films in the series, with over $262 million domestically and over $626 million worldwide. A sequel based on
How to Train Your Dragon 2 is currently set for 2027. This week,
How to Train Your Dragon had an HD share of 59%, with 30% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Universal also released a
How to Train Your Dragon: 2-Movie Collection (2010-2025), containing both the animated film and the live-action version on
Blu-ray and
4K UHD, which came in at No. 13 on the Blu-ray-only chart and No. 9 on the overall packaged media chart.
Dropping to second place on the Blu-ray-only and UHD Sellers charts in its third week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Thunderbolts*. The 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe opened in early May 2025 and naturally, it topped the box office with over $74 million. However, though it saw positive reviews and went on to make over $190 million domestically and over $382 million worldwide, those numbers still put the film in the bottom ten MCU films and behind the earlier 2025 release of
Captain America: Brave New World. This week,
Thunderbolts* sold 43% as many Blu-ray units as
How to Train Your Dragon, with an HD share of 65% and 25% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
The Accountant 2. While few would have anticipated a sequel to the 2016 film
The Accountant almost a decade later, it did go before the cameras in 2024 with multiple members of the cast returning. Unfortunately, when it opened in April 2025, it came in third place at the box office, eventually finishing its theatrical run with over $65 million domestically and just over $37 million internationally, only cracking $103 million worldwide. This week,
The Accountant 2 sold 36% as many Blu-ray units as
How to Train Your Dragon, with an HD share of 51% and 18% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Paramount Home Media Distribution's Blu-ray of
1923: Season Two (2025) debuted at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while Universal's
Casper (1995) and
The 40-Year-Old Virgin, two titles which received 4K UHD upgrades this week, came in at Nos. 5 and 7, respectively. Elsewhere outside the top ten, Rhino's
Deep Purple: Made in Japan came in at No. 14, while on the UHD Sellers chart, Arrow Video's
Poseidon 4K came in at No. 7, Universal's
Meet the Parents 4K came in at No. 11 and Shout Factory's
Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers 4K and
Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland 4K came in at Nos. 16 and 17.
