Get Carter 4K Blu-ray

Description: Two-time Oscar winner Michael Caine rips into the role of Jack Carter in this legendary crime thriller marked by "brutal and gamy plot turns, excellent direction (and) a fast-moving screenplay" (Variety)! London mob strong-arm Carter is drawn north to Newcastle by his brother's death-which he doesn't believe is accidental. All too familiar with the ways of the mob, Carter single-mindedly, and single-handedly tears into the local crime syndicate with terrifying precision and cold enjoyment, hunting the identity of the killer and then the killer himself. But what Carter doesn't know is that corruption within the mob is widespread, high-ranked and may hit closer to home than he thinks! "The pace is relentless" lauded to L.A. Times, "and picks up momentum like a freight train barreling downgrade!" "An instant classic" agreed The New York Times.

That Midnight Kiss

Description: The Warner Archive Collection is proud to be releasing another eye-popping Technicolor® restoration, THAT MIDNIGHT KISS. This handsome M-G-M production provided the screen debut of the immortal Mario Lanza. The story tells of aspiring diva Prudence Budell (Kathryn Grayson) knew what she wanted in a singing partner….but what she got was an uninspiring, walrus-like snob. "Great tenors are very seldom young, good looking men who feel the words of opera" the maestro (Jose Iturbi) explained. "If you ever find one who looks the part, you let me know". So Prudence found him. And, not coincidentally, his appearance on screen meant that M-G-M had found a major film star. Lanza, already a recording sensation first big-screen appearance in this1949 film helped to make the production a glowing, box-office success. As singing truck driver Johnny Donnetti, the broad-shouldered tenor proved he could handle lines with ease and warmth. And he amply showcased what everyone already knew – he could belt out a song (highlights include Donizetti's "Una Furtiva Lagrima" and Verdi's "Celeste Aida"). Grayson, who had a lifelong ambition to perform on the operatic stage, grace Verdi's "Cara Nome" with her bright coloratura. And, in his final movie, Iturbi teamed with his sister for Chopin's stirring "Revolutionary Etude". Another delightful confection produced by Joe Pasternak.

  • NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE ORIGINAL TECHNICOLOR NEGATIVE

7 Women

Description: In the final film of an illustrious career that spanned nearly five decades, director John Ford breaks his old mold: famed for making westerns, he directed an "eastern"; accredited as a "man's man" director, he created a film that starred not one, but a septet of women; and finally, known for big, outdoor films, he keeps the action confined within the walls of an isolated mission in China, circa 1935. Anne Bancroft is superb as a tough, realistic, cynical doctor who locks horns with the domineering head of the mission (Margaret Leighton), a woman of strict moral values. But when their ordered world is shattered by invading bandits, gallantry, courage and sacrifice – traits common to all Ford films- rise to the surface in a most startling fashion. Yes, Seven Women is a departure. But in true John Ford fashion, it explodes with the same dramatic truth and visual intensity that have forever enshrined him as one of the cinema's true poets.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE ORIGINAL CAMERA NEGATIVE
  • Oscar-winning M-G-M cartoon "THE DOT AND THE LINE" (HD)
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature

Intruder in the Dust

Description: Who shot Vinson Gowrie in the back? The jailhouse at Jefferson, Mississippi, may not hold the actual killer, but it does have the suspect an angry lynch mob wants: Lucas Beauchamp, who has long refused to exhibit the obsequious attitude expected of black people in Jefferson. Based on William Faulkner's novel and filmed in his hometown of Oxford, Intruder in the Dust is both a gripping whodunit and a milestone of social-conscience filmmaking. Claude Jarman, Jr. (reunited with director Clarence Brown of The Yearling) plays the youth whose troubled sense of right makes him a catalyst in solving the mystery. And Juano Hernandez is memorable as Lucas: proud, perceptive, strong -- words that also describe this superb film named one of 1949's 10 Best by the National Board of Review. Now restored from 4K scans of the best preservation elements, this landmark film comes to Blu-ray with a stunning presentation of a film that is timeless in its importance.

Special Features and Technical Specs:

  • MGM Shorts:
    • "PLAYLANDS OF MICHIGAN"
    • "COUNTERFEIT CAT"
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature

The Hard Way

Description: A powerful film featuring an unforgettable performance by leading lady Ida Lupino, THE HARD WAY is a gripping drama that in certain ways is a precursor to the same story dynamics to be found years later in the remarkable musical play GYPSY. Lupino takes center stage (so to speak) as Helen Chernen, a strong-willed woman who wants to get herself and her talented kid sister Katie out of their jerkwater hometown. And if that means using people and throwing them away, that's what Helen will do. Biting, observant, set against a glittery show-biz backdrop, The Hard Way has earned its reputation as one of Hollywood's great melodramas. Among the film's many fine performances, two stand out. Jack Carson, typically cast in comic roles, is powerfully affecting as a song-and-dance man whose kind heart is no match for Helen's ruthless wiles. And Ida Lupino is pitch-perfect as Helen, etching an indelible portrait of twisted ambition that won her the 1943 New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress.

  • NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE NITRATE CAMERA NEGATIVE
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
