The British Film Institute has provided final details for its upcoming Blu-ray release of Shane Meadows' TwentyFourSeven (1997), starring Danny Nussbaum, Bob Hoskins, Bruce Jones, Annette Badland, and Johann Myers. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on June 23.
Label description: Directed by cult favourite Shane Meadows (This is England), TwentyFourSeven, starring acclaimed actor Bob Hoskins, charts the story of working-class youngsters finding friendship, self-respect and meaning in post-industrial England. Shot in black and white, and featuring music by Tim Buckley, The Charlatans, Van Morrison and Paul Weller, this alternately heartwarming and confronting film is threaded with a sense of undeniable hope. The BFI brings it to Blu-ray for the first time ever, with special features including a newly recorded audio commentary.
In a 1990s east Midlands town, youth from local housing estates are struggling to find purpose. Recently returned to his hometown, Alan Darcy (Bob Hoskins) interrupts their lives by reviving the boxing club of his youth.
TwentyFourSeven won a BIFA for Best British Debut Director and was nominated for Best British Independent Film. It was nominated for a BAFTA for Best British Film.
