For the week that ended on April 12th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Mufasa: The Lion King remained on top both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its second week. The prequel to
The Lion King (2019) opened in December 2024 to mixed reviews and initially found itself in second place behind Paramount's
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at the domestic box office. However, by its third week in theaters,
Mufasa topped the box office and it continued to do well throughout January 2025, eventually amassing over $254 million domestically and over $721 million worldwide. This week,
Mufasa: The Lion King had an HD share of 42%, with just 2% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, which, as with many of Disney's recent family films, was only available on 4K UHD as a
Limited Edition SteelBook.
Rising to second place on both charts in its second week is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Flight Risk. Directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg,
Flight Risk opened in January 2025 to negative reviews and grossed just $44 million worldwide against a reported budget of $25 million, but it does offer the opportunity to see Wahlberg bald, something which the designer of Lionsgate's
Amazon Exclusive SteelBook edition clearly had fun with. This week,
Flight Risk sold 84% as many Blu-ray units as
Mufasa: The Lion King, with an HD share of 42% and 7% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
And rising to third place on both charts in its second week is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Blu-ray of DreamWorks'
Dog Man. The animated adaptation of the children's book series, (a spin-off from the
Captain Underpants series) opened in January 2025 to positive reviews and box office success, grossing over $97 million and over $140 million worldwide so far. This week,
Dog Man sold 69% as many Blu-ray units as
Mufasa: The Lion King, with an HD share of 35%. While
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie was released on 4K UHD by DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox in 2017, Universal has not made a 4K UHD edition of
Dog Man available at this time.
Elsewhere on the charts, Arrow Video's
The Long Kiss Goodnight, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 6 on the Blu-ray-only chart and topped the UHD Sellers chart for the week. Outside the top ten UHD Sellers. Criterion's
Some Like It Hot 4K came in at No. 16, while Shout Factory's
Sorority House Massacre 4K came in at No. 18.
