Severin has announced that two previously thought lost Andy Milligan Films have been uncovered and restored in 2K. The films are:
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me! (1968) and
The Degenerates (1967). The label has not yet revealed preliminary dates for upcoming Blu-ray releases of these films.
Label statement: "Severin super sleuth Todd Wieneke found the prints during post production on the new Severin doc THE DEGENERATE - THE LIFE AND FILMS OF ANDY MILLIGAN directed by Josh Johnson & Grayson Tyler Johnson, which will also premiere at the festival.
While researching the Dutch theatrical releases of three William Mishkin/Extraordinary Films, Wieneke discovered a pristine 35MM release print of KISS ME, KISS ME, KISS ME! at Amsterdam's Eye Film Museum.
The print was in excellent condition, having been shelved unscreened and unreleased by a Netherlands distributor who donated it to Eye Film sometime in the '70s.
Then, while researching the Belgian releases of several Milligan films, Wieneke discovered that THE DEGENERATES had a lone Flemish theatrical listing in 1968 as LES DÉGÉNÉRÉES, a year before Fellini's film of the same alternate title was released.
Further research revealed that when Pardon Films ceased operations in the early 1970s, the distributor donated their surviving inventory to The Royal Film Archive of Belgium in Brussels, aka the Cinematek.
Though their lone print of LES DÉGÉNÉRÉES was in extremely poor condition – riddled with heavy scratches and projection damage, torn perforations, missing footage, and with affixed French/Dutch subtitles – Severin's post-production team spent months on essential repairs and restoration prior to its 2K scan, followed by several weeks of digital restoration. Tribeca will be their first public screenings in over half a century. "
