For the week that ended on April 5th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Mufasa: The Lion King debuted atop both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The prequel to
The Lion King (2019) opened in December 2024 to mixed reviews and initially found itself in second place behind Paramount's
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at the domestic box office. However, by its third week in theaters,
Mufasa topped the box office and it continued to do well throughout January 2025, eventually amassing over $254 million domestically and over $721 million worldwide. This week,
Mufasa: The Lion King had an HD share of 46%, with just 9% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, which, as with many of Disney's recent family films, was only available on 4K UHD as a
Limited Edition SteelBook.
Debuting in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Disney and Searchlight Pictures'
A Complete Unknown. The biopic of Bob Dylan opened to positive reviews in December 2024 and received numerous accolades, including Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Edward Norton), Best Supporting Actress (Monica Barbaro), Best Actor (Timothée Chalamet), Best Director (James Mangold) and Best Picture. This week,
A Complete Unknown sold 90% as many Blu-ray units as
Mufasa: The Lion King, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 29% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, which was available in standard packaging.
Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Flight Risk. Directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg,
Flight Risk opened in January 2025 to negative reviews and grossed just $44 million worldwide against a reported budget of $25 million, but it does offer the opportunity to see Wahlberg bald, something which the designer of Lionsgate's
Amazon Exclusive SteelBook edition clearly had fun with. This week,
Flight Risk sold 74% as many Blu-ray units as
Mufasa: The Lion King, with an HD share of 46% and 14% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the Blu-ray-only chart, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Blu-ray of
Dog Man debuted at No. 4, while Toho's Blu-ray of the anime film
My Hero Academia: You're Next debuted at No. 5. Other new releases this week included Universal's
Love Hurts (2025) at No. 8 and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Companion (2025) at No. 9. Outside the top ten, Warner's Blu-ray of
Superman & Lois: The Fourth and Final Season (2024) debuted at No. 16.
Elsewhere on the UHD Sellers chart, Shout Factory's
Renfield 4K came in at No. 10.
