The British Film Institute has detailed its upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine (1995), starring Vincent Cassel, Hubert Koundé, Saïd Taghmaoui, Abdel Ahmed Ghili, and Benoît Magimel. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on April 21.
Description: Taking place over 24 hours following the police shooting of a young man from a Parisian housing estate, Mathieu Kassovitz's breakthrough film shows the world through the eyes of three friends from the banlieue – one North African, one Jewish and one Black – who are frustrated with politicians, the media and police brutality. Black-and-white visuals, a thumping hip-hop soundtrack and graffiti-daubed streets underscore the urgency and rebellion at the heart of this game-changing classic, which won Kassovitz the Best Director prize at Cannes in 1995.
Following its BFI Blu-ray release in 2020, the film now comes to 4K Blu-ray in a 4K restoration for its 30th Anniversary. This new edition includes an alternative score by award-winning electronic music collective Asian Dub Foundation, recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in 2025. The release will be celebrated by theatrical screenings of the film at BFI IMAX and other venues from April 11.
