British label 101 Films has informed us that it is preparing a Blu-ray releases of Richard Elfman's
Shrunken Heads (1994) and David DeCoteau's
Creepozoids (1987). The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on April 14.
Shrunken Heads
Shrunken Heads blends absurd humour with supernatural horror, infused with a healthy dose of voodoo and witchcraft. Originally set for a full theatrical release by Paramount Pictures, the film's bizarre nature reportedly shocked executives so much that the theatrical run was scrapped. However, due to contractual obligations, Paramount released it on VHS, which only contributed to its growing cult appeal.
When three inner city kids are murdered in a gangland showdown gone wrong, a mysterious witch doctor opts to drag them back from the grave. Well, most of them anyway! The voodoo priest leaves the boys' bodies and only reanimates their heads. Now, this trio of floating craniums is left to fly around New York with only one thing on their minds: revenge! Elfman fills the screen with his patented blend of absurdity, Grand Guignol effects, dark humour and surreal insanity and gives the beautiful Meg Foster (THEY LIVE, LORDS OF SALEM) one of her wildest roles, that of lesbian crime kingpin Big Moe.

Creepozoids
Originally released direct-to-video during the VHS boom, Creepozoids was made on a shoestring budget of just $150,000. However, much like the output from Charles Band's various studios over the years, the final product boasts surprisingly high production values. This is partly due to its being shot on 35mm—a rarity for B-movies of the era—and its impressive practical effects, which make great use of rubber suits, puppetry, and animatronics. Following its successful VHS release, Creepozoids was later distributed to drive-in theatres, where it quickly earned its rightful cult status.
CREEPOZOIDS tells the tale of five Army deserters who wander the post-apocalyptic, post-industrial LA landscape seeking shelter from an increasingly toxic environment and poisonous rain. They end up in an abandoned laboratory where they explore, have sex, and eventually run afoul of a cavalcade of genetically engineered creatures including mutant rats, a monstrous baby, a massive, bloodthirsty H.R. Giger-esque beast-and something even more malevolent. Co-starring adult film superstar Ashlyn Gere - appearing here as Kim McKamy - and horror movie legend Linnea Quigley (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, TROPHY HEADS).
