For the week that ended on January 25th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Venom: The Last Dance topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The third and apparently final entry in Sony's
Venom franchise opened in October 2024 to mixed reviews and box office success, topping the box office on its opening weekend en route to over $139 million domestically and over $478 million worldwide. This week,
Venom: The Last Dance had an HD share of 61%, with 30% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Debuting in second place on both charts is MUBI's
The Substance. The body horror film starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley has been a critical success ever since it was nominated for the Palme d'Or and won the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024. The film also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Demi Moore and has been nominated for five Oscars, including Best Actress for Moore, Best Director for Coralie Fargeat and Best Picture. This week,
The Substance sold 32% as many Blu-ray units as
Venom: The Last Dance, with an HD share of 68% and 28% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
And debuting in third place on both charts is Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Smile 2. The sequel to breakout horror
Smile (2022) opened in October 2024 to commercial and critical success, topping the box office on its opening weekend and eventually grossing over $138 million worldwide against a reported budget of $23 million. This week,
Smile 2 sold 21% as many Blu-ray units as
Venom: The Last Dance, with an HD share of 60% and 60% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Kill Bill: Volume 1,
Kill Bill: Volume 2 and
Jackie Brown, three catalog titles from director Quentin Tarantino which were released on 4K UHD this week, came in at Nos. 4-6, respectively, on the Blu-ray-only chart, while Sony's
Venom 3-Movie Collection (2018-2024) debuted at No. 7. Arrow Video's
The Cell, another 4K UHD upgrade this week, came in at No. 10, while outside the top ten, A24's
Heretic (2024) debuted at No. 14 and Vertical Entertainment's
Elevation (2024) debuted at No. 16.
