Blu-ray Sales: December 8-14: Alien: Romulus Still on Top of the Charts in Second Week

For the week that ended on December 14th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment and 20th Century Studios' Alien: Romulus remained on top of both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its second week. The seventh film in the long-running Alien franchise opened in August 2024 to positive reviews and topped the box office on its opening weekend with $42 million, eventually grossing over $105 million domestically and over $350 million globally. This week, Alien: Romulus again had a strong HD share of 72%, with 36% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Remaining in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's The Wild Robot. The latest film from DreamWorks Animation opened in September 2024 to critical and audience success, topping the box office with over $35 million on its opening weekend and grossing over $143 million domestically and over $324 million globally so far, on a budget of $78 million. This week, The Wild Robot sold 49% as many Blu-ray units as Alien: Romulus, with an HD share of 47% and 10% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

And remaining in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart in its eighth week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment and 20th Century Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine. The 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe smashed box office records when it opened in July 2024, grossing over $636 million domestically and over $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024 to date, behind only Inside Out 2. This week, Deadpool & Wolverine sold 44% as many Blu-ray units as Alien: Romulus, with an HD share of 65% and 23% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, the Criterion Collection's No Country for Old Men, which was released on 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 7 on the Blu-ray-only chart. Outside the top ten, BBC Studios' Doctor Who: 60th Anniversary Specials (2023) came in at No. 15, while Disney and Lucasfilm's Willow (1988), another 4K UHD upgrade, came in at No. 17.

Elsewhere on the UHD Sellers chart, Shout Factory's Riddick 4K came in at No. 14.
