For the week that ended on November 23rd, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. A sequel to
Beetlejuice had languished in development hell for what is, in entertainment terms, an eternity, but it finally crossed over into the land of the living some 36 years later, with director Tim Burton and stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder all returning. When the juice finally shook loose in September 2024,
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice topped the box office with over $111 million, becoming the third biggest film of 2024 so far, behind only
Deadpool & Wolverine and
Inside Out 2. Altogether the film grossed over $294 million domestically and over $451 million worldwide. This week,
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had an HD share of 62% and 30% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Debuting in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Toho's
Godzilla: Minus One. Toho's 33rd Godzilla film was a smash hit both in Japan and internationally, grossing over $57 million in the US and Canada and some $116 million worldwide, all on a reported budget of between $10-15 million. The film also went on to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, becoming the first non-English-language film to win that award and beating out such Hollywood blockbusters as
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. This week,
Godzilla: Minus One sold 81% as many Blu-ray units as
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, with an HD share of 79% and 50% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, while also topping the UHD Sellers chart for the week.
Dropping to third place in its fifth week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment and 20th Century Studios'
Deadpool & Wolverine. The 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe smashed box office records when it opened in July 2024, grossing over $636 million domestically and over $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024 to date, behind only
Inside Out 2. This week,
Deadpool & Wolverine sold 27% as many Blu-ray units as
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, with an HD share of 59% and 23% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
