Description: Dance First takes its title from Beckett's famous quote: "Dance first. Think later. It's the natural order." True to this spirit, the film focuses on Beckett's adventurous and often turbulent life, offering an intimate portrait of the man behind the intellectual mystique. Spanning from his formative years in Ireland to his profound contributions to theater and literature, the film weaves together Beckett's relationships, his work during the French Resistance in WWII, and the existential questions that defined his artistry.
The film highlights key moments in Beckett's life, including his relationships with literary giants like James Joyce, his experiences during the war, and his struggles with personal demons. Dance First blends historical drama with surreal, theatrical flourishes—mirroring the absurdist style Beckett is renowned for—making it both a visually striking and emotionally poignant exploration of his journey.
The Official Selection of the 2023 Lisboa Film Festival and the 2023 San Sebastian International Film Festival — Dance First also stars Finn O'Shea ("Normal People"), Aiden Gillen ("Game of Thrones"), Robert Aramayo (The Empty Man), and Bronagh Gallagher (Pulp Fiction).
