When the time came to transition the fictional town of South Park,
Colorado to the big screen, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided
that a musical would be the perfect format for conveying the shows theme.
A true testament to their talents, the film - '
South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut' - was a hit despite
its unconventional format. Today, fans of the film get to see the movie for
the first time in high definition on Blu-ray.
Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny flock to the opening of the new Terrance
and Phillip movie to see their favorite Canadian comedians on the big
screen. After being exposed to the excessive profanity, the four friends
beginning using their new vocabulary while in school and immediately get
in trouble. Outraged parents blame Terrance and Phillip for corrupting their
children, resulting in an all-out war between the United States and
Canada.
Staff reviewer Martin Liebman praised the Blu-ray release in his review:
"This Blu-ray disc presents South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut as it was
meant to be seen: crudely animated but colorful, and there's no single
blemish that jumps out to ruin this most faithful transfer."
Sony releases '
Adoration' under their Sony Pictures Classic line of Blu-ray
titles today, a film that also received an enthusiastic review from Martin
Liebman: "Thought-provoking, timely, and altogether fascinating;
wonderfully crafted, slowly but masterfully paced, and astoundingly acted;
Adoration is a rare film that does everything right, a Drama that challenges
its audience to reflect not only on the story but their own lives, to see the
world from a different perspective, to perhaps see it for what it is rather
than what each individual believes it ought to be."
The Christmas releases continue to flow with the Blu-ray release of '
How the Grinch Stole Christmas' while Halloween is
clearly drawing closer with some notable horror releases, including '
The
Craft' from Sony, '
Drag Me to Hell' from Universal, and '
Hardware', '
Killer Movie', and '
Midnight Movie' all coming from Phase 4 Films.
Warner is releasing '
Natural Born Killers: Director's Cut' on Blu-
ray today, not to be confused with the already released '
Natural Born Killers' Digibook release from last year.
Universal brings us the latest Will Ferrell bomb '
Land of the Lost' on
Blu-ray, reminding us that 'Anchorman 2' is only a few short years away.
And finally, Disney brings us '
The Proposal', a film
that, as staff reviewer Kenneth Brown puts it, "you've already seen" even
if you haven't seen it. Some films require a rental before purchase, but this
chick-flick is exactly how you figure it will be - for better or for worse.
