For the week that ended on September 7th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment and 20th Century Studios'
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes remained atop both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its second week. The fourth film since the franchise was rebooted in 2011 (and tenth
Planet of the Apes film overall) opened in May 2024 to mostly positive reviews and topped the box office, with over $58 million on its opening weekend and a global haul of over $397 million. Disney and 20th Century Studios further assured the film's success on home media by adding a second version of the film called the "Raw Cut", described by the studio as "a full-length alternative cut with a split-screen comparison between the final cut of the film and a version with unfinished VFX", on a dedicated Blu-ray disc with DTS-HD MA 7.1 sound and its own optional audio commentary track. This week,
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes had an HD share of 50% and 14% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Remaining in second place on both charts in its second week is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
The Garfield Movie. The animated family film, which is the third theatrical release for the famously lazy comic strip cat, opened in May 2024 on the same weekend as
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but still managed a respectable tally of over $91 million domestically and over $257 million worldwide. This week,
The Garfield Movie sold 33% as many Blu-ray units as
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, with an HD share of 41%. A 4K UHD edition has not been made available at this time.
Rising to third place on both charts in its fourth week is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The prequel tells the origin story of Imperator Furiosa, a character introduced in
Mad Max: Fury Road back in 2015, and while critical reception was positive,
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga failed to find an audience when it opened in May 2024, grossing just over $172 million worldwide on a budget reported to be between $168-$233 million. This week,
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga sold 32% as many Blu-ray units as
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, with an HD share of 52% and 19% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), which was issued on standalone 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 9 on the Blu-ray-only chart and No. 2 on the UHD Sellers chart, with over 97% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Sony's standalone
A League of Their Own 4k came in at No. 5 on the UHD Sellers chart, while the Criterion Collection's
Repo Man 4K took No. 9 and Shout Factory's
The Amityville Horror 4K (2005) rounded out the top ten for the week.
