Australian label Imprint Films has informed us that it is preparing a Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Sam Peckinpah's
Convoy (1978), starring Kris Kristofferson, Ali MacGraw, Ernest Borgnine, Burt Young, and Madge Sinclair. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 27.
Preliminary special features and technical specs are included on the press sheets below.
Kris Kristofferson stars as Martin 'Rubber Duck' Penwald, forced to go on the run after an encounter with corrupt Sheriff 'Dirty' Lyle Wallace (Ernest Borgnine). As other truckers hear the news, the decision is made to form a mile-long 'convoy', to take a stand against the abusive sheriff and the problematic 55mp/h speed limit. Teeming with explosive cargo, a highly public standoff escalates to a point of no return…
Also starring Ali MacGraw, Burt Young, Franklyn Ajaye and Madge Sinclair, this thrilling film was Peckinpah's most commercially successful venture. Although Peckinpah's rough cut was rejected by EMI and is now lost, we are proud to include a 115 minute Extended Cut on a bonus Blu-ray disc in our release, featuring five extra minutes of footage.
Our strictly Limited Edition 3-Disc Hardbox is jam-packed with brand NEW Special Features that delve into the history of this classic piece of film history with Peckinpah scholar Mike Siegel and expert contributors.
"Back in 1978, CONVOY was the very first Peckinpah film I ever saw, hence I have a soft spot in my heart for it. It was a very troubled production which gave me the opportunity to create hours of supplements to preserve its chaotic, interesting and even entertaining backstory for future generations. With the new 4K restoration, the extra footage and new supplements, this will be the ultimate home video release for CONVOY, for all time." - Mike Siegel
