British label Second Run has detailed its upcoming Blu-ray release of Jerzy Kawalerowicz's
Pharaoh (1966), starring Jerzy Zelnik, Wieslawa Mazurkiewicz, Barbara Brylska, Krystyna Mikolajewska, and Ewa Krzyzewska. The release is expected to arrive on the market on September 3.
Description: Directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz and adapted from the famous novel by Bolesław Prus, Pharaoh is a truly epic production, focusing on a young Ramses XIII as he ascends to the throne of the ancient Egyptian empire.

But unlike it's Hollywood counterparts, Kawalerowicz's authentic epic remains resolutely anchored in ideas as well as spectacle.
