Blu-ray Sales: May 12-18: Dune: Part Two Tops the Charts in Debut

For the week that ended on May 18th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Dune: Part Two topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. With 2021 predecessor Dune actually being Dune: Part One, the second part was greenlit as soon as that film proved to be a box office hit in October 2021. Both parts ended up overcoming challenges--Dune: Part One had to contend with a simultaneous release to streaming and theaters, while Dune: Part Two found itself delayed by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes of 2023, ultimately moving from November 2023 to March 2024. However, like its predecessor, Dune: Part Two opened to critical acclaim and box office success, grossing over $282 million domestically and over $711 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far. This week, Dune: Part Two had a terrific HD share of 83% and 50% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Warner's Dune: 2-Film Collection (2021-2024) took second place on the overall packaged media charts and had an HD share of 48% and 31% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to the individual release of Warner's Dune: Part One, which sold just 5.71% as many Blu-ray units as Dune: Part Two, with an HD share of 88% and 65% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Shout Factory's Killer Klowns from Outer Space. The 1988 horror comedy was released on 4K UHD this week and sold 5.69% as many Blu-ray units as Dune: Part Two, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 99.96% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Imaginary debuted at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart. On the UHD Sellers chart, Paramount Home Media Distribution's Once Upon a Time in the West 4K debuted at No. 3, while Warner's American Sniper 4K came in at No. 7.
