For the week that ended on May 4th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Madame Web topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The fourth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (which also includes films like
Venom (2018) and
Morbius),
Madame Web opened in February 2024 to negative reviews and failed to top the box office, eventually taking some $43 million domestically and just breaking $100 million worldwide on a reported budget of between $80-$100 million. The aforementioned
Morbius suffered a similar fate in theaters, but likewise managed to
top the disc charts when it debuted in June 2022 and remain in the top three Blu-rays for the next two weeks afterwards. This week,
Madame Web had an HD share of 60% and 24% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Taking the next three spots and sixth place on the Blu-ray-only chart are four new releases of Marvel Comics and Star Wars series from Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Second and third place goes to the Star Wars series
Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Complete Series (2022) and
Andor: The Complete First Season (2022), while fourth and sixth place goes to the Marvel Comics series
Moon Knight: The Complete First Season (2022) and
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: The Complete First Season (2021). The four releases sold between 57%-98% as many Blu-ray units as
Madame Web, all with perfect HD shares of 100% and between 50-59% of units sold from the 4K UHD format (see the UHD Market Share chart at the bottom of the article).
Dropping to fifth place in its second week is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
The Beekeeper (2024). The latest Jason Statham action vehicle opened in January 2024 to broadly positive reviews and a box office take of over $66 million domestically and over $152 million worldwide. This week,
The Beekeeper sold 58% as many Blu-ray units as
Madame Web, with an HD share of 50% and 0.3% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Ordinary Angels debuted at No. 7 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Mean Girls (2004), which was issued on 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 8 and its remake,
Mean Girls (2024), debuted at No. 10.
On the UHD Sellers chart, just outside the top ten came Warner's
Ocean's Trilogy 4K (2001-2007) at No. 11, while the individual SteelBook releases of
Ocean's Thirteen 4K and
Ocean's Eleven 4K (2001) came in at Nos. 16 and 17, respectively.
