Blu-ray Sales: January 28-February 3: Thanksgiving Carves Up the Top Spot in Debut

For the week that ended on February 3rd, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Thanksgiving (2023) debuted on top of both the the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The horror film from Eli Roth is based on his "fake trailer" of the same name first seen in Grindhouse (2007) and opened the Friday before the holiday in November 2023. The film received generally positive reviews and grossed over $31 million domestically and over $46 million worldwide, where in some markets, such as Spain, the film was re-titled Black Friday. This week, Thanksgiving had an HD share of 62%. No 4K UHD release was available.

Dropping to second place on both charts in its third week is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Trolls Band Together. The family film sequel finds main characters Branch and Poppy on a mission to rescue Branch's brother Floyd, who has been kidnapped. The film opened in November 2023 to mixed reviews and just managed to crack $100 million at the domestic box office, with its $205 million global haul considerably better than the pandemic-impacted 2020 release of Trolls World Tour, but still significantly less than the $347 million gross of the original Trolls in 2016. This week, Trolls Band Together sold 70% as many Blu-ray units as Thanksgiving, with an HD share of 51% and 4% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Silent Night (2023). The latest film from director John Woo was his first Hollywood film since Paycheck (2003) and opened in December 2023 to mixed reviews and little box office success. Lionsgate released the film both as a Blu-ray / DVD combo pack and as a Walmart Exclusive 4K UHD / Blu-ray SteelBook. This week, Silent Night sold 52% as many Blu-ray units as Thanksgiving, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 4% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, the Criterion Collection 4K UHD and Blu-ray re-release of Trainspotting came in at No. 9 on the Blu-ray-only chart and No. 2 on the UHD Sales chart for the week. Arrow Video's release of Conan the Barbarian 4K (1982) came in at No. 8 and Kino Lorber's release of Kindergarten Cop 4K came in at No. 11.
