For the week that ended on October 14th, Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its first week. The latest film in the iconic robot franchise is a sequel to 2018's well-received
Bumblebee and is set in 1994, where the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, must team up with the Maximals (who originally debuted in the
Beast Wars: Transformers (1996-1999) TV series) to prevent the Terrorcons from bringing the planet-eater Unicron to Earth. Released in June 2023,
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts received mixed reviews and has grossed less than $439 million worldwide on a reported budget of about $200 million, becoming the lowest-grossing film in the
Transformers franchise so far. This week,
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts had an HD share of 57%, with 20% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Returning to the top three Blu-rays this week is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Released theatrically in April 2023, the animated adaptation of the hugely popular Nintendo video game series received mixed reviews, but smashed several box office records, ending up with over $574 million domestically and a staggering $1.36 billion worldwide. This week,
The Super Mario Bros. Movie sold 19.47% as many Blu-ray units as
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, with an HD share of 80% and 5% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Also returning to the top three is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The sequel to
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse finds Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy traveling across the multiverse and meeting the Spider-Society, and it began development even before the first film was released and became a breakout hit back in 2018. Like its predecessor,
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was both a critical and commercial success, earning positive reviews from both critics and audiences and grossing over $381 million domestically and $690 million worldwide. This week,
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sold 19.39% as many Blu-ray units as
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, with an HD share of 75% and 38% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Universal's
Strays debuted on the Blu-ray-only chart at No. 6, while Paramount's
Rosemary's Baby (1968), which was issued on 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 9. Disney and 20th Century Studios
The Boogeyman (2023) debuted at No. 10, while Shout Factory's
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey debuted at No. 11 even though it was only available at Walmart. Finally, Universal's
M3GAN, Shout Factory's
Pumpkinhead and Disney's
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, all three of which received 4K UHD upgrades this week, came in at Nos 14, 16 and 17, respectively.
