For the week that ended on September 30th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Elemental topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The 27th feature from Pixar Animation Studios, about a fire element named Ember who meets and falls in love with a water element named Wade, opened in June 2023 to positive reviews, but a disappointing opening weekend of less than $30 million. However,
Elemental remained in theaters over the summer and turned its fortunes around as audiences discovered it, eventually grossing over $154 million domestically and $490 million globally. This week,
Elemental had an HD share of 57%, with 20% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Note that, like
The Little Mermaid (2023) the week prior, the
Blu-ray was a wide release available at all retailers, but the film's 4K UHD releases were retailer exclusives for
Disney Movie Club, along with a
Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook and
Walmart Exclusive with Lenticular Cover Art.
Remaining in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart in its fourth week is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The sequel to
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse finds Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy traveling across the multiverse and meeting the Spider-Society, and it began development even before the first film was released and became a breakout hit back in 2018. Like its predecessor,
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was both a critical and commercial success, earning positive reviews from both critics and audiences and grossing over $381 million domestically and $689 million worldwide, so far. This week,
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sold 81% as many Blu-ray units as
Elemental, with an HD share of 73% and 27% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Loki: The Complete First Season (2021). Representing the first of four Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases of Disney+ TV series,
Loki: The Complete First Season was released in separate
Blu-ray and
4K UHD SteelBook editions and sold 77% as many Blu-ray units as
Elemental, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 52% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Sony's
Insidious: The Red Door debuted at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken debuted at No. 7. Coming in at No. 9 was Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later, which saw an individual 4K UHD release this week, while Shout Factory's 4K UHD release of
Natural Born Killers came in at No. 10. Outside the top ten, Paramount's Blu-ray of
Star Trek: Prodigy - Season 1: Episodes 11-20 (2022) came in at No. 13.
